An Anglo-French co-production, Tales from a Hard City, claimed the top prize at the fifth Festival Vue Sur Les Does in Marseille. Produced by Picture Palace North (UK) and IRA Production (France), Tales from a Hard City tells the stories of four showbiz hopefuls in Sheffield. Directed by Kim Flitcroft and produced by Alex Usborne and Jacques Bidou, the film beat 90 other entries to take the Grand Prix. A sequel to Tales from a Hard City is planned, and will be called Shake Some Action, said Usborne. After winning the Grand Prix, Usborne said: 'European multi financing is a God-send to independent producers because it allows independent producers to be truly independent.'
